Udupi: 08 November,2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) A passenger travelling on the Mangala Express has been booked by the Konkan Railway authorities for pulling the emergency chain to retrieve his mobile phone that had fallen from the train window.

According to reports, the incident took place on October 23 between Diwankhavwadi and Kalambani stations. The man, who was travelling on the Mangala Express, pulled the emergency chain meant only for genuine emergencies, causing the train to stop. He then jumped out, collected his phone from the railway track, and re-entered his compartment.

Travel Ticket Examiners P.M. Krishnan and Ajit Jadhav, who were present on the train, submitted a report to the Railway Police about the incident. Based on their report, the Railway Police registered a case against the passenger under Section 141 of the Indian Railways Act, 1989, for misuse of the alarm chain.

Following the incident, Konkan Railway has urged passengers not to misuse the emergency chain for trivial reasons. The railway authorities have reminded that the alarm chain should only be used in unavoidable and genuine emergency situations, as unnecessary use of it is a punishable offence.
