Pak army brutally kills two Indian soldiers

In a ''provocative'' attack, Pakistani regular soldiers crossed into the Indian territory in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir and ambushed a patrol killing two soldiers, one of whom was decapitated. Sources, however, told Deccan Herald that infiltrators backed by the Pakistani Army were behind the attack. Condemning the attack, which it called provocative, the government said it will take up the incident with Pakistan. “We expect Islamabad to honour the ceasefire agreement strictly,” the Defence Ministry said in a late night statement. Army’s Additional Director General (Public Information) Major General S L Narasimhan said Northern Army Commander Lt Gen K T Parnaik visited the scene of action and confirmed that one of the two bodies was mutilated.Other sources said the heads of both soldiers — Lance Naiks, Hemraj and Sudhakar Singh — have been chopped off and one was taken away by Pakistani intruders. Tuesday’s attack took place along the Line of Control in Poonch district when Pakistanis came about 100 metres into the Indian territory and assaulted the patrol party. Besides killing two, they also injured two other soldiers and took away their weapons and other belongings.Meanwhile,  India on Tuesday asked Pakistan to honour the Line of Control, which has been the most important confidence building measure between the two nations. The brutal killing of two Indian Army soldiers has escalated tension across the LoC, New Delhi reminded Islamabad that the ceasefire along the line was an “important element” of the bilateral CBMs. “We call upon Pakistani authorities to ensure that the sanctity of the Line of Control is upheld at all times, and to ensure that incidents of unprovoked firing across the LoC do not recur,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated just an hour before the Indian Army confirmed that two of its soldiers were killed by Pakistani Army regulars, who intruded into the Indian side of the LoC. The MEA’s statement was in reaction to Islamabad’s allegation that Indian Army soldiers had crossed the LoC near Rampur in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday and killed a soldier of Pakistani Army. “We deny that Indian troops had crossed the Line of Control in the Rampur sector, or had violated the ceasefire,” said the MEA spokesman Syed Akbaruddin. His statement came a day after New Delhi’s Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad, Gopal Bagley, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan government and was given a protest note over purported death of a soldier of Pakistani Army due to firing by Indian troops who allegedly crossed the LoC on Sunday. Islamabad also alleged that Indian Army soldiers had attacked a Pakistani post after crossing the LoC. India, however, alleged that the Pakistani Army troops had commenced unprovoked firing on Indian troops early on Sunday. DECCAN HERALD.
