Overseas voters can now register in electoral rolls

PANAJI - Under Section-20A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, every overseas Indian elector is now entitled to have his/her name registered in the electoral roll of the constituency in which his/her place of residence in India, as mentioned in his/her passport, is located.
Meanwhile, rule 8A of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, now permits every adult overseas Indian elector, desirous of registering his/her name in the electoral roll, to submit a claim application in Form-6A for registration in the electoral roll of the constituency located in his/her place of residence.
As per a press release, Form-6A together with guidelines for applicants is available with the Indian missions in foreign countries, the Goa chief electoral officer, all electoral registration officers, all booth-level officers of the respective polling station of the constituencies, and on the election commission's website http://eci.nic.in.
Applications may either be submitted in person to the electoral registration officer of the concerned constituency or mailed.
