Ornaments, cash taken away from Uttaradi Mutt

A gang of persons broke open into the Uttaradi Mutt housing the Brindavan of Sri Jayatirtha on the banks of the Kagina near Malkhed village in Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district and made away with valuable ornaments worth over ₹ 6 lakh, during the early hours of Friday. The police suspected that a gang entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Brindavan the previous night or in the early hours of Friday. They made away 3 kg of silver ornaments, 20 grams of gold ornaments, and cash from the offering box. The temple archak opened the gates in the morning and found the Brindavan lock broken and the ornaments missing from the almirah. The donation box was found on the river bank. Meanwhile, Venkanna Acharya, archak of the temple, also launched a hunger strike demanding a thorough investigation of the case and recovery of the stolen ornaments and cash. A case has been registered at the Malkhed Police Station. This is the second incident of its kind over the last three years.
