Only 62% schools in India have electricity connections- says HRD

New Delhi: As per the data collected through the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), only 62.81% schools in the country have electricity connections, minister of state for HRD on Thursday informed the Rajya Sabha.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Jharkhand is at the bottom of the list with only 19% schools which have access to electricity, minister of state for human resource development (HRD) Upendra Kushwaha said in response to a written question.
The national capital along with Chandigarh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry top the list with 100 per cent schools with electricity connection.
Assam has 25% schools with electricity connection while Meghalaya has 28.54%. Others in the list include Bihar (37.78), Madhya Pradesh (28.80), Manipur (39.27), Odisha (33.03) and Tripura (29.77).
