One killed, another injured in car–scooter collision on NH-66 in Bhatkal

Bhatkal, Jan 28 : (Bhatkallys News Bureau) One person died while another sustained severe injuries in a car–scooter accident that occurred on National Highway 66 near the City Light Cross in Nawayath Colony, Bhatkal, on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Tausif (40), originally from Shirur and currently residing in Azad Nagar, Bhatkal. The injured have been identified as Syed Umar Rashad Shaikh (20), a resident of Madina Colony.

Both were first given primary treatment at the Bhatkal government hospital and were later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment when Tausif succumbed to his injuries.

According to preliminary information, the accident took place at around 11 am when the scooter was travelling from City Light Cross towards Shamsuddin Circle. At the same time, a car coming from the opposite direction, travelling towards Murudeshwar, allegedly at high speed, attempted to overtake a lorry and rammed into the scooter.

Due to the impact, the scooter was thrown several metres away, and both riders were flung onto the road, sustaining injuries. Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital.

A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, in this regard.
