Odisha man sets 59-year-old mother ablaze over property issue, arrested

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly setting his59-year-old mother on fire over a property issue. Further investigation in the case underway.

Odisha: In an appalling case reported from Malkangiri district of Odisha, a 30-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly setting his mother on fire. the incident happened at MPV-55 village under the Motu police limits.
According to news agency ANI, the deceased woman was identified as 55-year-old Gita Mandal who passed away owing to severe third-degree burns. the accused was identified as Tapas Mandal. Reportedly, the police said Tapas and his mother had an altercation over a property issue, following which the 30-year-old thrashed his mother and burnt her alive.
However, the police investigation in the case is underway. In a similar case reported from Bengaluru, a 23-year-old man allegedly set his 59-year-old mother ablaze after they indulged in a minor argument over buying alcohol. Reportedly, when the victim denied giving money to accused as he would spend all the money on alcohol, in a rage, he left the house. He then bought petrol from the market, poured on the victim and set Bharathi ablaze. The alleged culprit Uttam had fled the spot and the victim's husband has lodged a police complaint. In his statement to the police, the victim's husband said that their son was under the influence of drugs when the incident took place. A case of attempt to murder (section 309) under the Indian Penal Code has been filed. Source: Mirror now
