If you’re flying to Europe later this year, here is the best deal for you.
A new low-cost and low-fare airline will take you from Dubai to Europe for just Dh349 ($95 or 74 euros) one-way fare including all taxes.
Wizz Air, which serves Central and Eastern Europe, on Wednesday announced that it would start operations from Dubai World Central to four cities – Budapest (Hungary), Bucharest (Romania), Kiev (Ukraine) and Sofia (Bulgaria) from October 28..
Operating 14 flights a week, the airline will fly four times a week to Budapest and Kiev and three times to Bucharest and Sofia. Flights on Wizz Air’s new Dubai routes are already on sale.
Speaking at a press conference in Dubai on Wednesday, Jozsef Varadi, CEO of Wizz Air, said: “Flying between Europe and Dubai for as low as Dh349 is truly unprecedented. People who want to fly from Dubai to other West European cities like London can take Wizz Air’s connecting flight and reach there for just 100 euros (Dh470). Passengers can take our flights from Budapest to London for just 30 euros.”
Commenting on the number of passengers the airline is likely to carry in the first year of operations, Varadi said: “I expect Wizz Air to carry at least 250,000 passengers on our UAE network in the first year of operations. I expect we’ll announce more exciting routes and more low fares to Dubai as we move forward with our expansion plans.”
Operating a fleet of 40 Airbus A320s, the carrier connects 93 cities in 32 countries. Varadi claimed that the average age of the fleet is 3.2 years and it carried 12 million passengers in 2012. Varadi expects to carry 13.5 million passengers in 2013 and also add 200 employees.
He said good planners can really benefit from the special fares by booking early when flying to West European cities like London and Paris through Wizz Air. He expects flights to be full when starting operations from Dubai in October 2013.
Replying to a question, Varadi said the airline also offers attractive packages for the groups of 20 people or more.
Connecting Dubai World Central
Jamal Al Hai, ESVP of Dubai World Central, said the discussions are underway with the Roads and Transport Authority to connect DWC with the Dubai International Airport through buses, taxis and metro.
Speaking at the press conference, Al Hai said new airlines starting from the Dubai World Central are offered discounts in landing and parking charges. Nasair and Wizz Air will be the launch carriers to commence operations from Dubai’s second airport on October 27.
"Incentives are given to airlines which come first, just like we did with the freighters. Cargo carriers were also given incentives to start business from the new airport."
Wizz Air CEO said the airline chose DWC because it’s not congested and for easy access to Abu Dhabi residents.
