Bhatkallys News Bureau Mangaluru 06 Feb 2018: In a bid to relieve growing traffic problems in the city due to the vehicles plying on road, the Deputy Commissioner of Mangaluru Sasikanth Senthil has put forth his idea of introducing Electronic Road Price (ERP) over a toll system. It was discussed in a meeting held with Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials on Monday, February 5. ERP is an Electronic Road Pricing System used in managing road congestion. Based on a pay-as-you-use principle, motorists are charged when they use priced roads during peak hours. Addressing the media persons after the meeting Senthil said, "With significant increase in traffic congestion in Mangaluru city, the city has witnessed increase in pollutions, out of which pedestrians find it difficult to walk on the road. On implementing ERP for private vehicles, it will help in reducing the traffic and will result in smooth functioning of public transport". He further said, ERP has not been implemented anywhere in India so far. So, the step to implement it in the city, will be a model for others as well under smart city project.
