If you are visiting Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) one of these days, be ready to cough up for parking your car. The paid parking space in JLT district in Dubai started rolling out fees from Monday, residents of the locality told Khaleej Times. The motorists, excluding the residents, are required to pay Dh4 per hour. Premium parking is provided at a rate of Dh10 per hour for a maximum of 3 hours. Several parking slots have been provided for people of determination at the entrances of blocks also. The initiative has been launched by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and DMCC to increase the parking lot in JLT. According to the RTA, the first stage (this year) covers 1,936 parking slots classified into different zones as indicated in the symbols shown in the directional signage according to the needs of the area. About 460 parking slots will be unveiled in the second stage extending up to 2020. There will be no seasonal parking permits for this area as residential parking is provided. An RTA spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times that there will be no fines until December 18, or two weeks after the implementation of the new parking fee regime on Monday. "The two-week grace period is aimed at raising public awareness about the paid parking and to ensure that the smart parking system is working without glitches," the spokesperson said. There are no parking metres in JLT. Payment is done only by sending SMS to 7275 or via the RTA Dubai mobile app. The RTA spokesperson said motorists who experience difficulties in paying parking can contact the RTA on 8009090 or through its website www.rta.ae
