Nine-day ISKCON heritage fest off to a colourful start in Hubballi

HUBBALLI, July 14, 2016: The nine-day ISKCON heritage fest organised by the Hubballi-Dharwad unit of ISKCON began here on Wednesday with hundreds of schoolchildren participating in various competitions on the first day. Inaugurating the event, Chairman of Swarna Group of Companies, V.S.V. Prasad said such events help in bringing the children face-to-face with the Indian tradition, culture and heritage. They also help the students in their overall personality development, he said. Briefing about the event, president of ISKCON Huballi-Dharwad Sri Rajiv Lochan Dasa said that the event was an attempt to help the children imbibe the values of Indian culture and also prevent them from blindly following the western culture. During the heritage fest, around 30 different contests, including painting, rangoli, drama, dance, vocal music and others are planned. On the first day of the fest, around 500 students took part in painting competition, while over 150 students draped themselves in colourful attires of mythological characters to participated in the puranic costumes contest. The participation for the chanting of slokas of the Bhagawadgita and story telling competition was also held. The Hindu
