New Delhi: A new feature in WhatsApp with the beta version of WhatsApp on Android platform will allow users to free up space on your phone without deleting essential things. The feature has been available on iOS for some time. To put it in use, WhatsApp has included a new storage management section into its Setting menu on Android, offering users a glimpse of a detailed break-up of the amount of space consumed by chats, including media contents like images, videos, and GIFS. The functionality is available for testing on Android beta version 2.17.340, which can be downloaded from here. Once installed, head to Settings > Data and Storage users > Storage Usage. After a while, the app will show up all chat conversations with your contacts and the space each chat has taken. Additionally, the feature will also notify which group or chat has taken up more space than the other, making it easier for you to select what needs to be deleted. Tapping on a group or individual chat you will be able to see a detailed breakdown of all type of messages — texts, GIFs, videos, images, voice messages, documents, locations, and contacts — in the conversation. A Manage Message button at the bottom of the screen will let you mark sections and delete them. This new feature will leave enough place and free up the space occupied by unnecessary stuff on your Android device.
