New school year begins in UAE

Dubai: More than 970,000 students will start today (Sunday) their academic year 2014-2015 in 1400 schools operating under the Ministry of Education across the UAE. This is in addition to students in private schools offering non-UAE curriculum.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed the readiness of education and school zone administrations that are subject to its supervision, to receive students, especially after the completion of school maintenance works and insuring its expansions and the installation of air-conditioners.
The ministry added that it has said completed the distribution of textbooks to all schools as well as meeting the needs of the schools for air conditioners where the ministry supplied schools with 3374 split units AC’s in addition to maintenance work which covered all air conditioners according to the needs specified by different schools and adopted by educational zones.
The ministry also pointed out that the first day of the new school year is considered a special day where the initiative “Welcome school,” which aims to create an attractive and interesting learning environment will be carried out.
This initiative aims at making the first day of attendance sunny for students, and enhances the spirit of belonging to the school, while strengthening the ties between home and school, while introducing the students parents to the schools activities, order and thus activate their role in cooperating with the school administration and teachers towards the best interest of their children.
The ministry has also scheduled a comprehensive survey to take place with the start of school to determine the number of students in classrooms and the possibility of integrating different classes together according to each school year, and thus finding out the actual number of school teachers needed , noting that the survey will also shows if there is a surplus in teachers for certain subject or shortages in others.
The ministerial resolution has also set December 21 as the date for the next vacation where the first semester will begin, while faculty members will start their vacation on December 28. The vacation will end on January 8, 2015 for everyone.
The second semester leave for students will start on March 29, 2015 begins with faculty members starting their vacation on April 5. Both students and faculty members will return to school on April 9.
