Hong Kong's victory over Nepal in the final series of round six matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship has assured Netherlands and Papua New Guinea of a spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 with one round still to go.
Nepal's defeat in the first match and an abandoneded game means no other team can now close the gap on Netherlands and PNG, making them the first two teams from the WCL Championship to confirm their places in the qualifying tournament. However, with two qualification positions still up for grabs, Hong Kong will battle it out against Scotland and Kenya in the seventh and final round for the event to be held in Zimbabwe in March 2018.
Nepal, Namibia and UAE, who have not qualified from the WCLC, and Canada and Oman, who have qualified from ICC World Cricket League Division 3, will now go into the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 2018.
Round seven matches will take place in the UAE on December 6 and 8. Positions will be important as the winner of the WCL Championship will go on to claim the 13th spot in the recently announced ICC ODI League.
