National Education Day Celebrated in Bhatkal’s Maulana Azad Public School

Bhatkal: Maulana Azad Public School observed National Education Day with great zeal and spirit. Every year on November 11, the day is celebrated across India to mark the birth anniversary of the country’s first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and to honour his remarkable contribution to the field of education.
The programme began at 11 am with the planting of a sapling by Sunil M, Executive Officer of Bhatkal Taluk Panchayat, who inaugurated the event. In his address, he highlighted Maulana Azad’s service to the nation and his dedication to education, saying, “Education is the foundation of a nation’s progress.”
The event was presided over by Abdul Raqeeb M.J. Nadvi, General Secretary of Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal. Renowned poet and senior journalist Dr. Muhammad Haneef Shabab delivered an inspiring and meaningful speech on Maulana Azad’s life, vision, and contributions, stressing the moral, human, and social values of education.
Headmaster Shamsuddin presented a detailed report on the school’s performance, growth, and initiatives taken for comprehensive education.
The programme was compered by Jayanti, while Tanzila welcomed the guests and Shifa Firdaus proposed the vote of thanks.
A large number of students, parents, teachers, and local dignitaries attended the event.
It is worth recalling that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, known as the “Imam of Hind”, was born on November 11, 1888, in Makkah. He was the first Education Minister of independent India. His father, Maulana Khairuddin, hailed from a respected scholarly family of India, while his mother belonged to a noble family from Madinah.
As the Education Minister, Maulana Azad laid the foundation for India’s modern education system and established several key institutions related to art, culture, and learning. He paid special attention to the promotion of science and technology. On August 18, 1951, he inaugurated India’s first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kharagpur, a milestone that reflected his visionary leadership.
Maulana Azad is remembered as one of the chief architects of modern India. His far-sighted educational policies paved the way for India’s scientific and technological advancement, which continues to benefit the nation today.
