National Day Celebrated in Qatar

Doha - 20 Dec 2011: Qatarcelebrated its National Day with fervour and gaiety on Sunday 18thof December. For Qatari national it was an occasion to demonstrate their pride, where as expatriate joined to express their gratitude to the host country. Carrying Qatari flags and other insignia bearing Qatar official colours, thousands of them thronged to corniche bearing early morning chill to watch National Day parade and to see a glimpse of the generous rulers of this country to whom this population owes a lot.

The National Day commemorates the historic day in 1878 when the founder of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohd. Al Thani, succeeded his father as the ruler and led nation towards progress and prosperity.

A variety of competitions and cultural events have organized by the leading Qatari organizations and institutions that are aimed to promote interest and awareness among the children and youth of this country in order to keep abreast them their history and culture.
