Hyderabad: In a series of tweets, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, on Monday sparked a controversy. He claimed that Telangana cops are trying to trap Muslim men in joining them to the Islamic state.
The congress in charge of Telangana also claimed that a fake ISIS site has been set up by the police and Muslim men are encouraged to be a part of it, HT reported.
“It was on their information that MP (Madhya Pradesh) police arrested accused who were responsible for the bomb blast in a train in Shajapur District of MP. It also resulted in Saifullaha encounter in Kanpur the same day,” he added.
He spoke about an IS suspect killed in Lucknow in an anti-terror encounter in March. He questioned whether K Chandrasekhar Rao had authorised his police to capture Muslim youth.
“Is it ethical? Is it moral? Has KCR authorised Telangana Police to trap Muslim Youths and encourage them to join ISIS?” he tweeted, referring to the terror group by its other name, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Telangana police chief Anurag Sharma refuted Singh’s charges and said, “I don’t know on what basis he (Digvijay Singh) has made such wild allegations. They are utterly baseless and we strongly deny his comments.”
An IS suspect Saifullah was killed by UP anti-terror squad on prompt of Telangana Police. He was linked with a blast in Bhopal-Ujjain train, where 10 people were injured.
Before accusing KCR, Singh had accused chief minister Raman Singh of killing of CPRF personnel in Sukma attack.
