Muslim man assaulted in Udupi for no apparent reason

Udupi: A 42-year-old chicken stall owner is still to figure out why he was knocked out by a group at Hoode on Saturday evening May 17. A group of seven people, for no particular reason, allegedly assaulted a man named Mohammed Ais, a resident near Hoode fish market. He is an ordinary chicken stall owner and also has a side business of catering. Accordingly to the Mohammed, he was battered by a group that came on four bike to his stall and thrashed him will bottle and other harmful objects. Mohammed tried to escape, but one of them caught hold of him and spanked him. However by the end of the turmoil Mohammed managed to escape. He was later admitted to Ajjarkad hospital. Out of the seven persons, Mohammed was able to identify two as Nithin Poojary Hoode and Ganesh. The other five were unknown to him, he said. Mohammed said he did not know the motive behind the attack but it has been speculated that the attacked might be retribution of the tension during the BJP's victory rally on May 16 in Hoode. Clarifying the circumstances at Hoode Mohammed said, “A person named Fahad called MLA Pramod Madhawaraj and then district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake to explain him the scenario, but they did not respond.” “Thus later he called KPCC secretary MA Ghafoor who asked the police to tighten the security at Hoode, but even as I was attacked the police present did not come to my rescue”, he said.
