Mumbai Airport Fire: Blaze breaks out at Domestic Terminal 1B, tragedy averted; all you need to know

Mumbai Airport fire: Another fire incident struck Mumbai on Saturday, when a blaze broke out in the Domestic Terminal of the Airport in Santacruz. As per PTI reports, the incident happened at the ceremonial lounge of Domestic Terminal 1B and has been doused. None of the flight operations have been affected. There have been no casualties in the incident. Officials said that the fire started at a ground floor conference hall and then spread to the first floor of a lounge near the airport’s gate number 9. An official of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Disaster Control Room said the fire started in afternoon and fire brigade personnel have rushed to the site along with eight fire engines, six jetties and water jets. “The ceremonial lounge is away from the terminal building. Operations have not been affected. The fire has been doused. Every thing is under control,” an official statement from Mumbai International Airport Limited was quoted by The Indian Express. The maximum city has been marred by recent incidents of fire tragedies putting the fire safety norms under scanner. On December 29 last year, the horrific Kamala Mills Fire incident happened in which at least 15 people were killed and as many injured after a major fire engulfed a building in Kamala Mills Compound in Lower Parel. The fire broke out shortly after midnight on the third floor of the four-storeyed building on Senapati Bapat Marg, a commercial hub of the city. Several fire tenders, water tankers, emergency ambulance and police personnel were rushed to the spot for the rescue operation. The injured were taken to the civic-run KEM and Sion hospitals. The Mumbai police have arrested Yug Pathak, who is owner of the pub Mojo Bistro, owners of resto-bar 1Above, Kripesh and Jigar Sanghvi. Also hotelier and alleged cricket bookie, Vishal Kariya was also detained by the Mumbai police in connection with the Kamala Mills incident. On January 4 this year, four persons were killed in fire in Mumbai’s Marol. It has been learnt that fire broke out at Maimoon building in Marol late last night.
