Motorola launches 4th gen of Moto G

May 21, 2016: Motorola on Tuesday launched the fourth generation of its best selling - Moto G series - in the Indian market at a price of Rs 13,499 onwards.

Equipped with a larger display, better camera specifications and a fingerprint sensor, the Moto G4 will compete with devices of firms like Xiaomi, Meizu, Micromax and Lenovo.

“The new Moto G4 packs in a larger screen, better camera and larger battery life. We want to give the best features at affordable price to the Indian consumers. The MotoG is by far our best selling series so far,” Motorola Mobility India Country Head Amit Boni said.

The Moto G and Moto E handsets comprise 70 per cent of the company’s sales in India, he added.

The Moto G4 is also the first device to be launched with eCommerce major Amazon.in. Previously, all Motorola handsets and smartwatches were launched in India with Amazon.in’s rival, Flipkart.

The fourth generation of Moto G will have two versions— Moto G4 (without fingerprint sensor and 13MP rear camera) and Moto G4 Plus (with the sensor).

Two variants of Moto G4 Plus will will be available from tonight, while Moto G4 will be made available from next month.

“The first batch of phones are being imported but we expect to start manufacturing the handsets in India soon,” Boni said.

At the end of March 2016 quarter, Lenovo and Motorola had 8.2 per cent share of the Indian smartphone market, as per research firm IDC.

About 23.5 million units were shipped in January-March 2016 quarter, it added.
