Bhatkal, May 17:  (Bhatkallys News Bureau) A large-scale mock drill simulating a wartime emergency was successfully carried out at Mavinakurve Bunder in Bhatkal taluk on Friday evening. The joint operation involved coordinated efforts from the Coastal Security Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Rural Police Station, Health Department, Port Department, and Lighthouse authorities.

The mock drill was conducted in the backdrop of rising tensions between neighbouring countries and is part of a series of preparedness exercises being organised across coastal regions. The drill aimed to test and strengthen the response capabilities of various departments in the event of an actual attack along the coastline.

The scenario simulated a bomb explosion at the port, resulting in six mock casualties. Police teams were quick to arrive at the scene, securing the area and implementing emergency protocols. Firefighters responded immediately, dousing the flames and coordinating with emergency medical teams to transport the ‘injured’ to the hospital through ambulances.

Speaking on the occasion, Coastal Security Police Station Officer Kusumadhar K. urged the public to remain vigilant at all times. “People should immediately report any suspicious activity, including unidentified persons or unknown boats from other states or countries, to the concerned authorities,” he said. He stressed that while border regions remain vulnerable, coastal areas too can be targets during hostile situations. “Public cooperation is crucial in ensuring national security. Let us all remain ready to serve the nation,” he added.

The intensity and realism of the drill drew hundreds of locals to the spot, many of whom initially mistook the operation for a real incident.

Fire Station Officer Mohammed Shafi and other senior officials from participating departments were present throughout the operation, overseeing the drill and ensuring its smooth execution.
