Mangaluru: An alleged "miscommunication" between MESCOM officials and a contractor roped in for maintenance work, resulted in the exposure of several workers to electric shock, killing at least one. The incident happened at Maravoor Junction here on Wednesday, July 18 during the repairs to a high tension electric pole. The deceased has been identified as Ganesh (52), a resident of Yedapadavu. Two others sustained critical injuries and eight more sustained minor injuries in the incident, reports said. All the injured patients have been admitted to a private hospital in the city. Ganesh was working for Kinnigoli Tanu Electricals, a private electrical contractor. According to sources, Ganesh and his colleagues were sent to install a new electric pole. Due to a miscommunication, MESCOM officials "mistakenly" cut off electricity to another feeder. The workers who climbed the pole thinking it was safe underwent electric shock after coming in contact with the live wire. The electric shock was so severe that the workers were thrown off the high tension pole. Source: News Karnataka
