Bhatkal 28 May 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau): Nehzan Azeez Ekkeri has become the latest addition to the list of lawyers from Bhatkal. A graduate of Christ University, Nehzan took up law studies in 2009 with a goal to serve people.
His brush with legal studies stemmed from the untimely murder of advocate Naushad Kashimji who was gunned outside his home in Mangalore in 2009.
Nehzan will soon begin his legal practice as a junior of an acclaimed lawyer in the State of Karnataka, Advocate K. Diwakara (Legal Advisor to Government of Karnataka).
The young lad completed his primary and secondary education in Naunihaal Central School and IAUHS Bhatkal, respectively and moved to Ryan International School Surat for higher secondary schooling.
He hopes to have his own law firm in the future.
Bhatkallys.com spoke to Nehzan on completion of his graduation and below are the excerpts:
Bhatkallys.com: What ispired to take up law as profession?
Nehzan: The sense of injustice prevailing overall has disappointed us at various stages. But it has always been the battle of good versus bad. Realising that there exists the weapon of law to diminish the extent of injustice prevailing in, and anticipating that you are going to be armoured with this for your professional life was thrilling a thought beyond expression.
Bhatkallys.com: Five years is a long time, what kept you kicking throughout these five years?
Nehzan: Although there were a few lows, it has predominantly been the sheer drive and passion to become a voice of the voiceless that kept me kicking.
Bhatkallys.com: How have you enjoyed the journey so far?
Nehzan: It has been quite enthralling a journey for you're always expected to up the ante and raise your standard. Mediocrity has no place in the competitive environment in and amongst top law schools of the country.
Bhatkallys.com: What are the options you are exploring for yourself right now?
Nehzan: Currently I am focusing only on gaining a experience and insight into legal practice and be an open book. Since my interest has always been in dispute resolution, I intend to practice all domains of the same viz. Civil, Criminal and Alternate Dispute Resolution (Arbitration, Mediation etc.)
Bhatkallys.com: Where do you see yourself in next five years as an advocate?
Nehzan: I intend to have an independent practice where I will be totally at liberty.
Bhatkallys.com: How do you look forward to serve the community?
Nehzan: I want to be sufficiently equipped to gradually undertake cases pro bono. If concerned people and authorities assist, Public Interest Litigations and writ jurisdiction of the higher judiciary can be effectively and efficiently utilised to empower and help the communities prosper. Besides, God willing, I shall make my services available within any other capacity as the circumstances necessitate.
Bhatkallys.com: What are your closing reflections?
Nehzan: Law school certainly develops and enhances your personal, interpersonal and professional qualities. Although I have not been the best on field, I do feel I have undergone tremendous growth. Nonetheless, in a law school such as mine, there are always the limitations of norms and sometimes subjected to arbitrariness and absurdity, ironically inflicted upon law students who are imparted the fundamentals of Article 14 of the Constitution of India
