Bhatkal - 16 March 2011: Bhatkallys.com representative, Mr Rizwan Gangavali recently had a meeting with Bhatkal's celebrated swimmer, Mr Mohammed Meera S/o. Mohammed Gouse Shingeri (alias Koisha Meera) at his residence and tried to collect some of the facts and stories about his life. We are presenting here the excerpts from his long interview for the benefit of our young readers who are not aware of his achievements.
Mr Koisha Meera was born in the year 1935 in Bhatkal. He completed his early schooling from Anjuman. Later his father took him to Mumbai because he was very mischievous and less inclined towards his studies. He returned to Bhatkal in the year 1960 and started his career as an electrician. After getting married he shifted to his own house. But due to his poor financial conditions, he was forced to sell his house and shifted to a rented apartment in Madeena Colony.
Recalling the past incidents he said 'When I came to Bhatkal for the first time from Mumbai, there was a fire incident at Dongerpalli and I rushed there and played an important role in extinguishing it. Some days later another fire incident took place in Acharkeri and I went there also. Later whenever there was any fire incident in Bhatkal, people started calling me and slowly I became famous.
Regarding swimming he said that he had saved nearly 50 people from drowning out of which 3 to 4 persons are still alive.
Answering one question he said, till date i haven't received any appreciation from any organization. There was a time when people use to call me whenever there was a fire incident and anybody was drowned. I had so far recovered many dead bodies from the waters.
'Bhatkallys.com' requests its readers to help such persons and appreciate their work. This will encourage other people to come forward to do similar kind of work with much dedication.
