MBA, MCA counselling in Bangalore and Belgaum on July 15
01:40AM Wed 9 Jul, 2014
The admission process for MBA and MCA courses this academic year will begin with the seat counselling on July 15. Admissions will be based on only one entrance exam-PGCET 2014-across all colleges in the State.
The counselling will be held in Bangalore and Belgaum. Students can appear for the counselling in either centre, depending on their convenience. The final rank list will be announced on Thursday.
Although there was no negative marking in the exam, several students still scored zilch as they did not attempt even a single question.
They will not be allotted ranks, said Prof B R Ananthan, chairman of the PGCET consortium.
Sanctity of test
"We took the decision (of not allotting the rank) as the sanctity of the test has to be protected. In MBA and MCA courses, more seats are available than the number of candidates who wrote the exam.
In such a scenario, if we allot ranks to candidates who have scored zilch, it will amount to allotting a seat just because the candidates have attempted the exam,” Prof Ananthan said.
"These are professional courses and we have to ensure that the quality of students pursuing them does not suffer.”
This apart, the majority of students who wrote the exam this time have scored between 31 and 40. Prof Ananthan said there was a strong need at the college level to coach the students for the exam.
