Manipal: Youth attempts suicide after allegedly being tortured by police; SP assures investigation in the matter

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Wafa Kifa Udupi 28 March 2018: A 23 yr-old youth attempted suicidal after being allegedly tortured by the Manipal Police during investigation of the case in connection with a clash in Manipal. The youth is identified as Rakesh Poojary (23), resident of Udyawar. His mother Nalini Shekar has demanded the strict action against the police officials in a memorandum submitted to the SP. It is gathered that, on March 25 the police had arrested Rakesh and while investigation, it is alleged that Rakesh was assaulted and tortured by police and was also abused with foul language. After Rakesh was released, he attempted the suicide by slitting his wrist with a blade in the depression. He was admitted to a private hospital in Manipal. Upon this, Rakesh's mother demanded strict action against the police. After receiving the memorandum, the SP has assured to investigate the case.
