Mangaluru: After alleging that the police department has failed to tackle the rampant cattle theft menace in the district, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has decided to launch a 'Gau Raksha Dal' in all villages of the Dakshina Kannada district to prevent the theft and illegal transport of cattle.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, July 21, VHP Mangaluru Division President Jagadish Shenava stated that the VHP will form 'Gau Raksha Dals'in every village in the district consisting of 10 members. These members will keep vigil on the illegal transport of cattle during the night and they will work on shift basis, he added.
Whether or not the cops are present, our activists will stop suspected vehicles and hand the culprits over to the police. The VHP has taken this stand after the police department failed to initiate any action against cattle theft, he said.
He also alleged that the cattle are been stolen from cowsheds by threatening and flashing swords at the owners during the night. In a month, nearly 21 cattle have been stolen from Moodshedde village alone. A woman known as Lakshmi has lost 15 of her cattle in past eight years, he said.
'Invoke Goonda Act against cattle thieves'
When the Hindu activists prevent illegal cattle transport it is being projected as moral policing. Invoke Goonda act against cattle thieves, he said.
The VHP and Bajarang Dal have planned a massive protest rally from Vamanjoor to Moodushedde at around 4:00 pm on July 26, he informed.
