Mangaluru to get Karnataka's 10th Central prison; Rs. 85 crore project to begin in April this year

Mangaluru 19 Feb 2018: The announcement on allocation of Rs 85 Crore in the budget on Friday has given a hope finally to shift the Mangaluru's DK district jail into a new premises at Mudipu of Mangaluru.
The district jail has witnessed several unpleasant incidents in the last two years. Despite security checks, police and staffs are facing it difficult to prevent the unusual activities by inmates. Also the prison is over crowded and double to its actual capacity which is 210.
The new project at Mudipu will be of high security central prison which is to come up on 67.89 acres of land and will be the the 10th Central prison after Shivamogga in the state.
It will be all-inclusive structure that will allow 10,000 inmates in it. The blueprints for the prison has provision for spikes at the entrance, automatic doors and a helipad. There will also be a separate staff quarters, library, workshop and a hospital in it.
The construction work process is expected to start in April this year.
