Mangaluru: After a long wait, the Thokkottu flyover has finally been inaugurated by MP Nalin Kumar in a small ceremony on June 13th. Earlier, the inauguration of the flyover was planned on June 10th after the completion of the much delayed work by the end of May, but was postponed due to technical reasons. However, the flyover has now been inaugurated for vehicular movement thanks to the sudden decision for the same by the MP. Speaking to media, the MP said, “The Thokkottu and Pumpwell flyovers, which are a part of the Talapady-Kundapur national highway project, is nearing completion. This work has been going on since the past 4 to 5 years. There were several technical issues concerning the Thokkottu flyover. However, after overcoming all the hurdles, the flyover is fully complete today. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari sanctioned a loan of Rs. 55 crores in March so that the projects can be fast-tracked. That is why it was possible to complete the work.” “Even though the flyover is open, we are still trying to further beautify the flyover. Similar to Surathkal and Kuloor flyovers, the beautification of the Thokkottu flyover is also being done by us. Today, I am happy that the flyover has been inaugurated. In another couple of days, the Pumpwell flyover will also be ready depending on the current pace of work and the monsoon rain,” he added. Post the inauguration, the MP walked the entire length of the flyover and offered prayers at a small temple located at the other end of the flyover. The never ending work on Thokkottu flyover since the last eight years was a major headache for the motorists here. The project was plagued with repeated delays only aggravating the traffic chaos here. However, the inauguration of the flyover today may finally give some much needed relief to the commuters here.
