Mangaluru: Passenger arrested at Airport for smuggling gold concealed in his footwear

Zaorez Shabab Mangaluru 27 Nov 2017: The custom officials at Mangaluru International Airport on Monday arrested a passenger who arrived at the airport on a Dubai flight, for trying to smuggle gold worth 24 lac Rs. by concealing it in his footwear. During his routine security check, an alarm beeped indicating the passage of gold from the scanner, initially the customs officials were unable to recover any gold from the passenger but after a thorough frisking, gold worth 24 lac Rs. was recovered concealed in his shoes. The accused confessed to the crime and said he smuggled the gold on the 'Request' of his friend. A case has been registered under Customs Act and further investigations are underway.
