Mangaluru: No payments to garbage collectors by city corporation; residents faces the music as employees goes on flash strike

Zaorez Shabab Mangaluru 22 Nov 2017: Employees of Mumbai-based Antony Waste Handling Cell (Pvt) Ltd which is responsible for collecting the garbage and disposing it at the dump yard went on a flash strike on Tuesday owing to the due payments that has not been cleared by the Mangaluru City Corporation. The residents raised concerns over the disposing of garbage in the city until the two-parties solve the issue. According to the sources, the city corporation had not paid the dues of September and October month, a total of Rs. 4.5 crores, 1.75 crores was then transferred to the company's account on Tuesday. Mayor Kavita Sanil, immediately initiated a dialogue with the company's representatives and assured them of the payment of another Rs. 50 lacs on Wednesday. The talks seemed to be successful and the company representatives assured of getting back to their job from Wednesday. Kavita Sanil, then informed about the company's promise of resuming the garbage collection from Wednesday. Antony Waste Handling Cell (Pvt) Ltd has deployed over 680 employees and 150 vehicles in the city to collect and dispose over 300 tons of garbage.
