Mangaluru: Illegal sand extraction spots raided, boats and sand worth Rs. 60 lac confiscated

Mangaluru 30 March 2018: A joint operation by the Dk Police, Revenue, Mines and Geology departments against illegal sand extraction at Badaga of Bellurpolice station limit on Wednesday, 28 March resulted in the confiscation of huge quantity of sand along the river side and 48 mechanized boat which is valued to be of Rs 60 lac.
Many tented shelters were discovered at the spot indicating that the place was based for organised illegal sand mining racket. After searching both the sides of the river bank, all country-made boats with sand were confiscated.
But those involved in sand extraction were not traceable and managed to ecsape from the spot after sensing the raiding team.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SP DK district Dr B.R Ravikanthe Gowda. The raid was led by Sub Inspector Akshay and Sub Inspector of Bantwal PS Prasanna along with Constable Basavaraj and Assistant head Constable Kiran.
