Mangaluru: Illegal sand busting drive continues; 3000 tons of sand seized on Jan 27

Mangaluru 28 Jan 2018: During the last few days, the drive to bust the illegal sand mining mafia is yielding results in the city as several consignments of illegally stored, transporting of sand has been busted by the administration. More such illegal stocks of sand of around 3,000 tons worth Rs 27 lac were seized by the team led by Police Inspector Gopikrishna including officials of mines and geology department an operation on Saturday, January 27. Working on a credible lead from sources, the team raided a spot at Joseph Nagar in Permannur Village and confiscated hundred loads of sand that was stored illegally. Simultaneously, the operation was carried out near Ambody house in Kallapu Patla and 300 loads of sand weighing about 2,000 tons was seized. The confiscated sand has been valued at about Rs 27 lac. The Police officials then appealed to the general public of informing the department upon having any credible information about the sand mining mafia and their activities. And assured the of keeping their identities confidential.
