Mangaluru: Five arrested with about 850 kilo of beef meat worth Rs 14.25 lac

Beltangady 17 April 2018 (Bhatkallys News Bureau): District Crime Intelligent Bureau (DCIB) nabbed five people in connection to the detection of illegal beef trafficking in two separate operations in the Taluka on Monday, April 16 and also seized 850 kg cow meat from their possession along with their vehicles and mobiles which is estimated to be of worth about Rs 14.25 lac. DCIB team was on patrol duty in the early hours of morning on Monday, when a vehicle which arrived at Guruvayanakere junction was stopped for checking, they found 400 kg of beef while inspecting the vehicle which was being transported illegally. Three occupants of the vehicle Mushtaq (50) from Mangaluru, Muhammad Kabir (38) from Bantwal and Abdul Jabbar (45) from Bantwal were arrested and five cellphones were also taken from their possession. Another vehicle was inspected near Kukkedy on Guruvayanakere - Venoor road and the occupants Ashraf (39) of Bantwal and Ruzeem (25) from Mangaluru were taken into the custody. About 400kg of beef were siezed from their possession. The beef was being transported towards Mangaluru with the intention of selling it at high price, Sources said. The arrested and beef were handed over to Venoor Police Station. After obtaining permission from the court, Beef was burried. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DK Superintendent of Police Dr Ravikanthe Gowde, while DCIB Police Inspector Sunil Y Nayak and other staff were involved in the operation.
