Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner leads crackdown on illegal sand mining; 800 truckloads of sand seized

Bhatkallys News Bureau Mangaluru 16 Jan 2018: Around 800 truckloads of sand and 40 boats laden with sand were seized by officials during a drive against illegal sand mining from various location across Mangaluru which was carried out between Saturday evening to Monday evening. Acting swiftly, a team led by Dakshin Kannada District DC Sasikanth Senthil, along with Tahsildar, Assistant Commissioner, officials of NHAI, Senior Geologists and police officials of Kavooor police station raided several spots including Moodushedde, Padushedde, Manjalpade and Jappinamogaru. The team was also successful in detecting five sand extraction units located near Maravoor vented dam in Mangaluru and sealed them.
