Mangaluru: Congress leader assaults cop on duty; booked

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Ismail Zaorez Mangaluru 01 Jan 2018: Amrit Kadri, a local Congressman on Saturday night allegedly assaulted a traffic constable on duty when he was served with a chalan for drunk driving while questioning the authority of the constable for stopping a vehicle that of a local leader like him. The incident took place on Saturday night when the traffic officials were checking the vehicle and documents near Bejai under the supervision of sub-inspector of traffic (east) station, R K Gawar. Amrit who was on his way to the circuit house was also stopped by traffic constable Puttarama. Furious by this Amrit,  allegedly got into a scuffle with the constable on being served with drunk driving chalan and inquired about his authority to stop his car. Later on Sunday morning Amrit was booked under sections 341, 504, 323, and 353 IPC at Urwa Police Station and further investigations are underway.
