MANGALURU , Marxh 28,2017- The Mangaluru  International Airport will  become  one of the gateways for foreign tourists entering the country with e-tourist visas, an online visa issue system introduced by the Union government. The facility will be made available to foreign tourists from April 1, 2017. As of now, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport is the only one in the state that provides this facility to international passengers. With this facility, passengers with e-visas arriving in Mangaluru no longer need to fly via Mumbai and Bengaluru. Currently, the Mangaluru aiport handles 47 international flight arrivals and departures every week, all of them to GCC countries. Under the system, foreign tourists can apply for visas through https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html. It may be recalled that the government had  included Mangalore seaport  in the list of designated sea entry points under the evisa scheme in Dec 2016.
