Mangalore: Bus Skids on NH 48 Killing One, Injuring Seven

Mangalore - 23 May 2011:In an unfortunate incident occurred on the National Highway 48 near Adyarkatte here on Monday May 23 at around 4 pm, one person identified as Manjayya Shetty (50) was killed when hit by aspeeding private bus. The busthenturned turtleinjuring as many as sevenpersons including three children.

Manjayya Shetty, a resident of Arekala Pavoor was an agriculturist by profession and well-known in the locality. He hadjust alightedfrom a bus and was crossing the road withoutnoticing the fastapproaching bus. The bus skiddedwhen the driver applied the breaks and went on to hit the divider, eventuallyoverturning.

It is learnt that the bus wasplying from Mangalore to Puttur. The passengers on board were returning to Putturafter attending a baby shower in the city.

Awoman, whose identityis not yet known,losther arm in the incident. She has been admitted to the hospital. In all, seven passengers injured in the accident have been admitted to a hospital in Kankanady.

Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty who was on the way, stopped his vehicle and helped in shifting the injured to the hospital with the help of local people gathered. Kankanady rural police rushed to the spot.
