Man mistaken for child-lifter beaten in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A mentally retarded person was beaten up by a mob assuming he is a child lifter, in Patalamma layout under the Kadugodi police limits. According to the police, the person, whose identity is yet to be found, is suffering from mental illness. The man was spotted in Patalamma layout on Thursday evening and all of a sudden locals started thrashing him assuming that he is a child-lifter. Few of the assaulters called up a private TV channel to telecast the news. The reporter who arrived at the spot saved him from further thrashing and informed the police, who rushed to the spot, rescued the person and admitted him to Victoria hospital for treatment. "We have arrested a person in connection with the incident. Others have fled their houses," police said. Source: News Karnataka
