MANGALURU, July 16, 2016: One of the coaches of Madgaon-Mangaluru Central DEMU train (70105) derailed at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station on Saturday afternoon, throwing train traffic on the Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram sector out of gear. However, there were no casualties. The derailment occurred soon after the train left Mangaluru Junction at 12.32 p.m. towards Mangaluru Central, said a senior Railway official. There were 11 passengers in the train, who were refunded the amount, he said. While the rear portion of the derailed rake is kept on the track at Mangaluru Junction, the front portion moved towards Mangaluru Central. After re-railing the derailed coach, the portion of the rake would be sent to Mangaluru Central. Meanwhile the return trip of the DEMU (70106) remained cancelled even as the Railway authorities provided an unscheduled stop to Mangaluru Central-Mumbai LTT Matsyagandha Express at Mangaluru Junction to facilitate passengers waiting to board the DEMU to proceed with their planned journey. Meanwhile, several trains on the sector got delayed as only one line was available to receive and dispatch trains at Mangaluru Junction. At least one-and-a-half hour delay would be there till about 5 p.m., the official said. The Hindu
