In a country where corruption is a harsh and running reality, the least we can expect is for the authorities responsible for eradicating such problems, to be cooperative and helpful. Or wait. Do we really can? A video of a police officer from Lucknow, which is going viral, says otherwise. In the shameful video, an elderly woman can be seen falling at the feet of Tej Prakash Singh, an officer at the police station at Gudamba. The woman’s act was a desperate attempt to lodge a First Information Report over the death of her 20-year-old grandson. According to NDTV, Akash Yadav, who was a labourer at a plywood factory on the outskirts of the city, died after being crushed under a malfunctioning machine. The video clearly shows, the woman in concern, 75-year-old Brahma Devi, crying with her hands folded. Seeing the reluctant attitude of the officer, the helpless woman falls to his feet. While Tej Prakash makes a lazy attempt to stop her initially, he sat with his legs crossed, watching her plead for the next few minutes. However, what comes as a good news is that the police officer has been removed from his post after the video surfaced online. According to a statement by the Lucknow Police, Tej Prakash has been sent to the police lines and a senior officer is currently inquiring the case. An FIR has also been registered against factory owner, Ajay Gupta, who has been missing since the day of the incident. Ironically, the Gudamba Police station was ranked among the India’s three best performing police units last year by the union home ministry. Union Minister Rajnath Singh, had awarded the unit for its “Extremely courteous” staff.
