Liveblog: Google Pixel smartphone launch and hardware event

We are just hours away from the announcement of Google’s new range of Android smartphones that are expected to be called the Pixel and the Pixel XL. But the 4 October event is supposed to be include a lot more than just smartphones. Google is expected to focus on not just its new brand of smartphones, but also the official launch of Google Home, its Amazon Echo-like offering and other hardware like a 4K Chromecast and the much-talked about Daydream. While the Google’s marketing and advertising campaigns points to just smartphones, we also have the Google Assistant that is expected to be integrated into its smartphones, cloud and Google Home, that should make it a lot smarter. Coming to the smartphones, Google will have big explanation to give out as to why it plans to cull its Nexus lineup for the new premium Pixel range that is bound to compete with Apple’s iPhones, with both features and price. More details are expected to be given about Google Home as well. It awaits to be seen as to how Google combats Amazon’s Echo and Alexa with its Home and Google Assistant since Amazon did have a pretty good headstart. Everyone eyes, including Apple, will be on Daydream, a virtual reality project by Google that so far has been a well guarded secret.
