Dubai - 08 Oct 2011: The Bhatkal Community in Dubai hosted its largest Eid Milan on Thursday evening in a show of unity, love and expressionism. Over 2200 people from all walks of life, including men, women and children came together to mark the Eid festivities at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai's Oud Metha area.
Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman of the famed Moopen's Group attended the event as a guest of honour.
"I can recall my early days in Calicut where a lot of businessmen from Bhatkal were present. Even today, I have many friends and associates from the Bhatkalli community," expressed Dr Moopen.
Qasim Seddiqi from Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons was also in attendance alongside a number of senior Emirati businessmen.
Islamic poems, staged acts and outright comedy marked a night of celebration.
Ehsaan Qureshi, one of India's leading stand-up comedians made his presence felt as he belted out jokes in his trademark poetic style.
The event itself was filled with drama as a bumper prize (Hero Honda bike) was erroneously given to an Abu Dhabi resident. The prize was later revoked and given to another person following a review of the decision.
Some 49 prizes including a Tata Nano were given away to members. The bumper prize included a complete home appliance set complete with a fridge, washing machine, television, vacuum cleaner and other appliances worth Dh14,000.
