Kundapur: Four arrested for extortion attempt

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Wafa Kifa Kundapur: Four persons were taken into the custody by Kundapur cops on Thursday, April 12 in connection to a case of allegedly threatening a businessman by pretending themselves as journalist to extort money from him. The accused have been identified as Manjunath, Lokesh, Dharmendra and Vikram alias Vicky. The victim is identified to be a businessman Farook of Koteshwar who also own a scrap shop. On April 9, the accused approach Farook at his shop claiming themselves to be from media and that they are conducting raid and took advantage of the fact that he obtained used saline (glucose) bottles from hospitals in order to blackmail him, it is said. They threatened him to extort one lac rupees by saying that if the higher officials comes to know about the fact then they would fine him upto 5 lac rupees and threatened him to pay the amount in two days. After two days three of them came to him and demanded the money. However, he refused them saying that he would follow law. Upon which they bursted in anger and got hold of him and snatched Rs 5000 from his wallet and left the space by warning him that they would distort his reputation. Farook immediately filed complaint against them in Kundapur police station, to which the police swung into the action and finally arrested the culprits. They have been sent to judicial custody.
