Kumta: Assistant Sub-Inspector who served as Hawaldar in Bhatkal dies in a road accident

Kumta 19 July 2018: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Honnavar police station on Tueday night died in a road accident after his bike went out of control due to a skid caused by heavy rain at Vivekanagar of Kumta here. The deceased has been identified as Shankar Gudimane(57), a resident of Kumta. The deceased ASI joined police force at Gokarna as a constable in 1982, and went on to serve at Bhatkal Police Station as Hawaldar before being promoted and transferred to Manki police station as Assistant Sub-Inspector at Manki police station. Working at the Honnavar Police Station recently Shankar completed his 36 years of service. On Tuesday night, he was returning home to Kumta from Honnavar when a sudden skid resulting in Shankar losing his control over the bike and crashed into the rocks beside the road, and sustained severe injuries. Shankar was rushed to Kumta Government Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood flow. He was cremated with state honors at Kumta in the presence of Bhatkal Dy.SP Valentine D'Souza, Honnavar CPI Cheluvaraj, Kumta CPI Santosh Shetty and other officials.
