Konkani Sahitya Academy honours 8 persons from district

March 08, 2016 | Correspondent | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy conferred its annual Honorary Awards, Book Awards, Yuva Puraskar and Special Recognition Awards for the year 2015 on 12 persons on Sunday at Nagayakshe Sabha Bhavan in Bhatkal. Addressing the audience at the occasion, MLA Mankal Vaidya said that members of Konkani community have set an example of harmony and tolerance by honouring people from different communities. The award giving ceremony was presided over by Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya. Bhatkal's notable personality, SM Syed Khalilur Rahman, Hangayo Ice Cream MD Pradeep G and George Fernandes were felicitated at the function for their achievements in respective fields. The Honorary awards were conferred on Ramchandra M Shet (Konkani language and literature), Kasargod Chinna (Konkani art) and Alu Peelu Marati (Konkani folk). The Book Awards were conferred on Om Ganesh Uppunda for the transalation of 'Bayila Bhade Bayila', Rony Arun for the Research study book 'Tho’Kanatullo zuzari', and Fr Denis Castelino for collection of Konkani Articles titled “Dalit”. Rajaram Prabhu (music), Nasrullah Askeri (sports) and Anjali Wilson Vaz (Dance) were conferred with Yuva Puraskar-2015. The chief aim of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is preservation and promotion of Konkani language, art, literature and culture. The Academy has been established with the purpose of promoting the growth of Konkani and its allied activities in the region.   - ARF
