Thiruvananthapuram: A young man who was trapped on a hill in Kerala's Palakkad since Monday was rescued this morning after a marathon effort by the army.
Post rescue, the man, R Babu, dressed in T-shirt and shorts, was seen pictured with smiling helmeted army personnel. Some were even seen clicking selfies and flashing the victory sign.
"Very thanks, Indian Army," said R Babu sitting among army men. He then kisses the army personnel as a gesture of thanks and joins the men in chanting "Indian Army ki jai, Bharat mata ki jai"
R Babu climbed the Cherad Hill in Malampuzha along with two friends on Monday. Babu kept climbing even after his friends abandoned the effort, and reached the top, but he slipped and was trapped between two rocks.
Earlier pictures showed R Babu in a fetal position, precariously balancing himself in a small crack.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted this morning saying that an Army rescue team was able to talk to the man.
"Efforts are in full swing to rescue the youth trapped in #Malampuzha Cherat hill. There are currently two units of the @adgpi at the scene. Army members were able to talk to him. The rescue operation will be intensified today. @IAF_MCC helicopter is ready to be deployed," Mr Vijayan tweeted.
