The family of a pregnant woman has alleged that a Communist Party of India (Marxist) local leader attacked her because of which she lost her child. The woman, who was four and a half months pregnant, lost her child after a CPM leader named Thamby kicked on her stomach. The woman, mother to a 5-year-old, had to undergo a forced abortion because of this.
The family further alleges that when a complaint was filed, the police did not take any action. However, the Kodencheri Police have arrested seven men in connection to this case and they will be produced before the court today. The arrested men include neighbours of the complainant.
The incident took place when eight men came to the woman's house to attack her husband because of an ongoing dispute over compound borders.
Earlier, the family had approached the taluk office to get the matter solved. The authorities had taken the measurements and divided the plot. However, some men often encroached on their privacy and entered the house to threaten and abuse the family. When the family complained to the police, no action was taken. However, on the day the incident took place, one Saithalavi who was acting as a mediator went to the family's house at night along with eight men. The group attacked the woman's husband and their son. "I called the police but they said they don't have vehicle to come", the woman told India Today. When the woman tried to intervene, one man's mother tied her and asked the men to attack her. The woman claims that two men, one of whom was CPM leader Thamby, attacked her and it was Thamby who kicked her. Later, she was taken to the hospital where the doctors told her that there was a blood clot on her placenta due to which she lost her child. "I have registered complaints in two stations with their names. The police had arrested only one culprit. Those men threatened me in public that they will kill me. Now, CPM leaders are asking me to exclude Thamby from my complaint and they will arrange the arrest of others. But I am firm on my decision, I will go forward till I get justice", the pregnant woman's husband said. Source: India Today
