Psychologists advised parents to keep a constant tab on their children as many teenagers are getting addicted to Internet. This is having an adverse affect on academic performances of the children, they said.
Addressing a meeting organised by Sai Prema Parents Association for Mentally Challenged Persons here on Saturday, noted psychiatrist Indla Ramasubba Reddy said several parents were approaching doctors complaining that their children were spending more time on surfing Internet at night rather than focusing on studies.
“As the phenomenon has been increasing significantly for the last few years, it is the responsibility of parents to counsel them about the ill-effects of browsing Internet. They can also take the assistance of psychologists to deal with the problem,” he suggested. The short and long-term effects of an online addiction are unfinished tasks, weight gain, backache, neck pain, and vision problems from staring at the screen for long hours.
