Karwar 19 November 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Following Goa Government's ban on fish import from Karnataka, fishermen in Karwar on Saturday stopped trucks from entering Karnataka carrying fishes from Goa, and made them turn back from NH-66 near Polem check-post of Goa-Karnataka border.
Hundreds of fishermen from various parts of Uttara Kannada district Karwar, Honnavar, Kumta, Bhatkal and other places took part in this protest and stopped trucks coming from Goa state and warned them not to enter the state until Goa government lifts ban on the fish import from Karnataka.
Police officials sensing the prevailing tension, convinced the truck drivers to take their vehicles back and not to enter the state.
The ban by Goa government came after Formalin, a preservative causing cancer to human was found in the samples of fish sold in the markets of Goa few months back, resulting in the imposition of ban on fish import from other states by the Goa government.
On October 28 in a similar protest, more than 50 trucks carrying fish were sent back from here.
